RUCKSACKS

TARTAN HEN offers a full range of "convertible" rucksacks which solve the problem of those bothies which although offering excellent free accommodation as an alternative to expensive B&Bs or the misery of camping, have nevertheless certain drawbacks. Not least of these is an absence of any form of comfortable furniture and the discouragingly ubiquitous presence of floors made of flagstones. The BASIC convertible is illustrated above.

The WIND-BAG convertible is outwardly similar to the BASIC model, but has the additional feature that the sack unit can be inflated to give a well filled appearance and give the impression that the wearer is carrying his/her fair share. The sack also unfolds to become an air-bed.

The VAL DOONIGAN. (And if you don't know who that is, then too bad, this book is not for you) The Val-Doon has additional rocking-chair supports. The user must supply his/her own pullover and guitar.

The BRANSTON convertible. The equipment is supplied with cylinders of hydrogen (or optionally helium or hot air) which can be used to inflate the sack. This is specially recommended for high level bothies and huts as it greatly eases the pain of ascent. The customer is, however, required to sign a disclaimer absolving Tartan Hen from all responsibility for any disaster, whatsoever, which may occur as a result of using this product. Our technical advisor, after whom the product is named, wishes to draw attention to the retaining string. He advises that the user should at all times retain a grip on this string or tie it securely to a handy boulder.

The SUPER DELUXE BRANSTON is equipped with a radio homing beacon to facilitate finding it again, if the advice about retention of the retaining string has not been followed.

The SPRING-STEP quick release rucksack pocket.. This is a useful accessory to any rucksack. One of the problems with the WIND-BAG or any rucksack designed to look heavy, is that other members of the party may lift it and discover its super-lightness. This is particularly likely to happen when rucksacks are being loaded or unloaded into the boot of a car. The quick-release pocket is easily attached to any rucksack and is supplied with lead-ballast camouflaged to look like sheep dung. As you emerge from the hut, a press on the release button will cause the "dung" pellets to be discharged down a tube into the wearer's trouser pocket and down trouser leg to the ground. (We got the idea from a film about British prisoners in a German prisoner of war camp). On return to the hut, the pellets can be retrieved with the POOPER-SCOOPER provided as an optional extra so that the rucksack can be recharged for the return journey. Care should be exercised to ensure that the correct pellets are retrieved.
